Cape Town conference experience

Familiar with the venues. Focused on the brief

After more than 500 events, the major Cape Town conference venues are familiar ground. The CTICC, Century City Conference Centre, Westin Cape Town, and Belmond Mount Nelson each have their own lighting conditions, access logistics, and layout considerations. Knowing where the natural light falls in the main auditorium at a particular time of day, or which entrance provides the cleanest arrival shots, removes a layer of on-the-day uncertainty. That familiarity shows in the images.

A significant portion of that work has been in the energy sector. Events for clients including Astron Energy and Juwi Renewables mean that industry-specific formats, technical keynote presentations, panel discussions, and the particular visual language of the sector are not unfamiliar territory. Understanding the context of an event, not just its format, makes it easier to anticipate which moments matter most.

Most event photography that disappoints does so for a simple reason: there was no brief. The photographer covered what was visible rather than what the client needed. A pre-event briefing, covering the programme, the key speakers, the must-have moments, and any VIP attendees, means the shot list is agreed before the first frame is taken. It also means the photographer is not improvising around a timetable they have never seen.

Post-event use shapes every shooting decision. Images from a corporate conference typically need to work across several destinations at once: a press release, LinkedIn posts, internal communications, and an annual report, all with different crop ratios, tone requirements, and timelines. Shooting with those downstream uses in mind, rather than treating them as an afterthought, is what makes a set of conference images genuinely useful rather than merely present.

Common questions

Before you send the brief

How do you ensure the right moments are captured?

Every conference booking starts with a written brief: programme, key speakers, must-have moments, and any specific deliverables for comms or press. The brief is the reference throughout the event.

Can you cover multi-day conferences?

Yes. Multi-day conferences are quoted as a daily rate. For events that also require video coverage, I can refer you to a trusted associate videographer, Kat Willemse at House of Vizion.

What is the "live social drops" option?

For events with same-day social media requirements, a set of edited selects can be delivered during breaks, typically within 30 to 60 minutes of the moment being captured. This is included in the Comprehensive Full Day package and can be added to other packages on request.

Do you photograph at the CTICC and other major Cape Town venues?

Yes. The CTICC, Century City Conference Centre, V&A Waterfront venues, Belmond Mount Nelson, the Westin, and other venues across the metro are all familiar ground. Venue familiarity matters for anticipating lighting conditions and access logistics.

Can speaker portraits be added to a conference booking?

Yes. Speaker or executive portraits can be photographed during breaks or before the programme begins. This is included in the Comprehensive Full Day package and can be added to any booking at an agreed rate.

How quickly are images delivered after the event?

Edited images are delivered within two working days as standard. The Comprehensive Full Day package also includes a two-hour preview gallery immediately after the event.

"Jürgen photographed two back-to-back conferences for us in Cape Town, each with very different set-ups and requirements, and he handled both with absolute professionalism and ease. The final images were fantastic and captured exactly what we needed. From the start, he felt like part of the team. Communication was smooth, he was open to every specific request, and he brought a positive, calm energy to both days. His turnaround time was exceptional. The highlight images we had asked for arrived incredibly quickly throughout the event, without any compromise on quality."

"Jürgen did a fantastic job at the AFSTA Congress 2026 in Cape Town. The images truly captured the key moments and atmosphere of the event so well. Jürgen's professionalism and timely delivery of the assignment are top-notch. Looking forward to working together again in the future."

Lindah Chavuya

AFSTA Congress 2026

"We have had the pleasure of booking Jürgen on a few occasions in South Africa. He is very professional and delivers images on time and to a very high standard. It is always a risk when booking someone in a different country when you can't attend the shoot, but we have been very impressed with Jürgen and our client is thrilled with the results. We look forward to continuing our working relationship in the future."
